Mental Rehabilitation

The Rehabilitation Department of Shanghai Mental Health Center has long been committed to innovating the management model of mental rehabilitation, improving the standards of mental rehabilitation treatment, promoting the techniques of mental rehabilitation therapy, developing a research platform for mental rehabilitation, and building a talented team. They provide inpatient rehabilitation, day rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary outpatient services. The department includes one chief psychiatrist, three associate chief psychiatrists, one attending physician in rehabilitation medicine, two nursing supervisors, ten psychotherapists, six rehabilitation therapists, and seventeen psychological rehabilitation nurses.

 

In 2022, the Rehabilitation Department expanded its scope to include the field of rehabilitation medicine, broadening its clinical focus from mental rehabilitation to psychosomatic rehabilitation. In 2023, they were awarded the National Clinical Key Specialty Construction Project and the National Mental Disease Medical Center Clinical Key Specialty Cultivation Project, engaging in the comprehensive development of a multidisciplinary system for the full cycle of mental rehabilitation.

 

For several consecutive years, they have hosted national continuing education programs and have been recognized by the Chinese Medical Doctor Association's Psychiatry Branch as one of the country's first demonstration bases for mental rehabilitation. They were also recognized as the first training base for Naikan Therapy in China and a clinical internship base for the Rehabilitation Medicine School of Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In collaboration with the Institut Supérieur Français de Rééducation psychomotrice (ISRP) in France, they established the Sino-French Psychomotor Rehabilitation Center. The department has trained hundreds of mental rehabilitation therapists in China.

 

They have received several national level scientific research projects, including four projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China and one major project of "Brain Science and Brain like Research" in Science and Technology Innovation 2030 and have published over 200 articles in Chinese or English, including publications in the JAMA sub-journals.

 

In addition, they have hosted an online calligraphy and painting exhibition titled "Opening the Window to the Soul - Meeting Happiness", a charity sale of "Double Twelve" mental rehabilitation works, produced a mental health science popularization emoji pack, and participated in large-scale science popularization public welfare brand activities such as Gallery 600, Citizen Health Science Popularization Week, Hospital Open Day, and "Double Ten" Mental Health Day.

 

Their achievements have been recognized with honors and awards, including the Second Prize of the Science and Technology Award from the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, the Bronze Prize in the First National Health Industry Youth Innovation Competition of "Creating Youth", and the title of "Science Popularization Expert" in the National Mental Health Public Welfare Science Popularization Competition.
