Founded in 1965, the genetic research laboratory is one of the earliest institutions in the field of psychiatry in China to carry out genetic research. In the early years, we mainly engaged in the research of cytogenetics and genetic epidemiology of mental diseases. The biochemical pharmacology research laboratory was established in 1959. In 2022, the genetic research laboratory and the biochemical pharmacology research laboratory were merged to establish the genetic and biochemical research laboratory.

The research team includes 13 senior researchers, excellent young scientific researchers and experienced technicians. The team undertook and participated in a number of national key R & D programs and the National Natural Science Foundation of China as a main researcher. The genetic and biochemical laboratory has carried out research fields including biomarker and multiomics research, neuromolecular cell and neural circuit research, psychotropic drug metabolism and interaction, dose-effect relationship and other research fields from the molecular cell, animal model and patient levels of mental diseases, and provided scientific research services for clinicians and graduate students in the center who have relevant research needs.
