Shanghai Mental Health Center (SMHC) is committed to building a research-oriented hospital benchmarked against leading international peers. By forging a scientific research data platform conforming to ethical standards, SMHC integrates biobank, image data resources and research clinical databases to support the development of basic research, translational research and clinical research platform. Through the construction of medical consortium, opening of experimental platform and sharing of resources, SMHC makes high-quality scientific research resources available to cooperative hospitals, scientific research institutes of universities and other institutions nationwide. Taking the construction of academic community as a starting point, SMHC joined hands with colleagues in the mental health sector to promote the basic and clinical translational researches in the field of mental health.

Shanghai Mental Health Center was established as WHO Collaborating Center in February 1982, and became one of the earliest collaborating centers between WHO and China. As one of the WHO Collaborating Centers for Mental Health in China, it is also provided with abundant clinical resources, rich teaching capabilities and innovative research team time, it has obtained access to lots of international advanced achievements by cooperating WHO Collaborating Center foundations, famous universities and hospitals at home and abroad.

Shanghai Center for Mental Disease Control and Prevention is a governmental and municipal-level technical organization specialized on mental disease control and prevention. Under the leadership of Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, if exerts its function in technical guidance and support of community-based severe psychiatric diseases' prevention and rehabilitation, public mental health promotion, psychological crisis intervention, etc. If follows the guideline of "prevention first and prevention & treatment combination" to fight mental disease and support communities and citizens.
