Shanghai Mental Health Center has a complete set of clinical departments and strong technical capabilities. With a total of 2,141 beds, it consists of general psychiatry department, clinical psychology department, psychiatric emergency (PICU), mood disorders department, child & adolescent psychiatry department, psychosomatic disorders department, psychogeriatrics department,rehabilitation center, voluntary drug rehabilitation, sleep disorders department, etc.

It is committed to the development and improvement of the clinical diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. Based on the clinical practice experience, the center actively explores new ground and makes bold attempts. It has carried out a series of specialty and sub-specialty developments aiming at improving its medical capabilities.

Clinical Center for Mental Illness

As one of the 33 clinical medical centers in Shanghai, the Clinical Center for Mental Illness was established in 2002 with the approval of the Shanghai Municipal Health Bureau. Being the largest clinical medical center with the most comprehensive sub-specialties in China, it boasts a leading position in the mode and technology of the diagnosis and treatment in the country.

Development of Characteristic Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Projects

  • Repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) Technology

    rTMS improves a variety of clinical symptoms, such as depressive episodes, sleep disorders, anxiety disorders, etc., as well as improve cognitive functions such as memory and attention of patients.

  • Integrated Outpatient Department for Complex Diseases

    It provides correct diagnosis and treatment guidance for patients far away from Shanghai especially those in remote areas, and also provides instant services for psychiatric emergency in general hospitals of Shanghai.

  • Remote Consultation Platform

    It provides remote consultation and demonstrative teaching for many hospitals in Zhejiang and Xinjiang Provinces, and renderes convenient medical services for patients in remote areas.

  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

    It relies upon a combination of psychological education, emotional management cognitive behavior correction, family support and crisis intervention and other technologies to improve the prognosis of bipolar disorder

  • Identification and Intervention of Mental Illness Risk

    We take the lead in formulating the conceptual and diagnostic criteria of high-risk psychosis syndrome adapted to Chinese cultural background and have developed corresponding screening and supporting clinical diagnostic tools, and established “Shanghai At Risk for Psychosis (SHARP),
