Recently, the “2024 Report on Overseas Media Communication Impact of Chinese English-language Scientific and Technical Journals” was officially released. General Psychiatry (GPsych) was selected as one of the top 100 journals in the list, ranking sixth! GPsych ranked first in the sub-list of overseas media dissemination for journals in biomedical and clinical sciences and fourth in the list of journals by the frequency of overseas news coverage.

The “2024 Report on Overseas Media Communication Impact of Chinese English-Language Scientific and Technical Journals” is a collaborative effort by the Institute of Integrated Media and Thematic Publishing at Hangzhou Dianzi University, the Society of China University Journals, and ImpactX. The report aims to provide new benchmarks for evaluating the social impact of scientific journals and to facilitate the development of an international communication system for Chinese scientific publications.
The analysis includes English-language scientific journals with a CN designation hosted by Chinese institutions. The overseas media communication data is derived from Altmetric.com, encompassing a range of news and social media platforms such as X (formerly Twitter), Facebook, YouTube, and Reddit. This data set captures the international dissemination of journal articles published in 2023, tracked up to October 23, 2024. According to the report, Biomedical and Clinical Sciences, Biology, and Chemistry lead the ranking with highest number of articles, boasting with 18, 17, and 16 journals, respectively.

General Psychiatry (GPsych), initially known as Shanghai Archives of Psychiatry, was incepted in 1959 as the first professional psychiatry journal in mainland China. It is hosted by the Shanghai Mental Health Center in partnership with the British Medical Journal (BMJ) Publishing Group. In May 2019, GPsych was indexed in the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) and is also included by PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, and DOAJ. It is further recognized in the Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD) and the Chinese Science and Technology Papers and Citation Database (CSTPCD). GPsych was honored to be chosen for the China Excellence Action Plan for Scientific Journals in 2019, and it has been consistently acknowledged as an "Excellent Academic Journal with International Influence" in China for six consecutive years (2016-2021). In 2022-2023, it was distinguished as China’s "Most Influential Academic Journal", ranking among the top 1% of journals in China.
