Delegation of New Zealand Paid an Exchange Visit to Shanghai Mental Health Center

The New Zealand S&I Counsellor in China Ron XAVIER, New Zealand Consulate in Shanghai Erina OKEROA, and New Zealand Consulate in Shanghai Policy Advisor SHEN Minmin, and New Zealand-China Non-Communicable Diseases Research Collaboration Center Manager ZHANG Hu, visited Shanghai Mental Health Center (SMHC), Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine on the morning of October 19, 2023. Vice President LI Chunbo chaired the event, and directors of pertinent management departments and heads of clinical departments in SMHC joined the discussion.


Vice President LI Chunbo began with a cordial greeting to every visitor. He shared his observation that since the National Health Commission of China designated SMHC as the National Center for Mental Disorders, there has been a sharp rise in international collaborations at SMHC. He expected that today's event would open new avenues for partnership. Subsequently, Executive Director LONG Jiang of the Office of External Collaborations provided a brief overview of the center's background, medical services, research, teaching, and training programs. Counsellor Ron XAVIER introduced the history and structure of China-New Zealand science and technology cooperation. After giving an introduction to what the New Zealand China Non-Communicable Issues Research Collaboration Centre (NCDCRCC) is working on, Prof. ZHANG Hu went on to talk about how China and New Zealand were working together among hospitals, on student training, academic research and other areas. The colleagues of SMHC had extensive discussions about potential collaborations with Counsellor Ron XAVIER and Professor ZHANG Hu at the end of the meeting. The two parties came to positive conclusions about joint research center development, training and academic exchanges.
