The Management Committee of National Medical Center for Mental Illness and National Regional Medical Disease Treatment Center (“dual centers”) was founded formally on July 16 in order to establish a mechanism for effective collaboration among different centers, explore the mode of collaboration and advantage complementation of the medical institutions in the southern and northern parts of China and promote the development of national mental health undertaking with joint efforts.
Wang Gang, Vice Director of National Center for Mental Health, China, Gao Yong, Deputy Director General of Medical Resources Office of Department of Medical Administration, National Health Commission (NHC) and Wu Hong, Director General of Medical Policy and Management Office of Shanghai Municipal Health Commission attended the activity and delivered speeches. The activity was attended by nearly 150 persons, including executives of 4 hospitals of National Medical Center for Mental Illness as well as experts from relevant domestic psychiatric institutions.


The Secretary Xie Bin from Shanghai Mental Health Center hosted the opening ceremony. Xie said, “Becoming a hospital under National Medical Center for Mental Illness means not only affirmation for SMHC’s years of hard work but also new major responsibilities and missions. SMHC will avail itself of the chance to focus on the mass’s demand of mental health and mental disease prevention & control, explore and innovate in such aspects as diagnosis and treatment of rare and critical illnesses, tackling of key medical sciences, and work together with other hospitals of National Medical Center for Mental Illness and National Regional Medical Disease Treatment Center to co-build a high-level mental health and hygiene service network covering the whole country.”
On the inauguration ceremony, President Zhao Min from Shanghai Mental Health Center, Director Wang Xiaoping from Psychiatry Department of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Vice President Sun Hongqiang from Peking University Sixth Hospital and Vice President Wang Jing from Beijing Anding Hospital lighted up the kick-off ball and declared the formal establishment of the Management Committee of the dual centers. On the basis of considering domestic realities and pursuing international development, the Management Committee will formulate the overall development goal and planning of the two centers, define duties and responsibilities and work together to realize the development goal.

Vice Director Wu Renrong from Psychiatry Department of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Vice President Sun Hongqiang from Peking University Six Hospital, Vice President Wang Jing from Beijing Anding Hospital and Vice President Wang Zhen from Shanghai Mental Health Center shared their insight on the theme of “measures on the construction of National Medical Center for Mental Illness” through different levels, angles and paths based on the realities and highlights of their hospitals, and expounded the future development plan of the National Medical Center for Mental Illness.

After the sharing session, President Zhao Min from Shanghai Mental Health Center hosted a discussion session, where Director Wang Xiaoping from Psychiatry Department of the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, Vice President Sun Hongqiang from Peking University Six Hospital, Vice President Wang Jing from Beijing Anding Hospital, President Ning Yuping from the Affiliated Brain Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Professor Zhang Ning from Nanjing Brain Hospital and Professor Wang Qiang from West China Hospital Sichuan University conducted an in-depth discussion on “the working mode of the dual centers”.
President Zhao Min from Shanghai Mental Health Center said, “The hospitals of the two centers will further define their functional positioning, promote development based on their own advantages, and co-build a new pattern of mental health service system featuring distinct features, advantage complementation and coordinated development.”
