On December 21, China-Singapore Joint Symposium was held online jointly by Shanghai Mental Health Center, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore Population Association of Singapore, and National University of Singapore. We were honored to have Dr. Lin Xu, Director of International Affairs Office, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine to deliver the opening speech. Dr. Xu said, population ageing has become an increasingly important global issue. In 2021, China had 267.36 million people aged 60 or above, an increase of 9.92 million over the previous year, accounting for 18.9 percent of the country's population, an increase of 0.7 percentage points over the previous year. Mental health among old people has become a very important public health and social issue in China. Shanghai Mental Health Center has established collaboration with the National University of Singapore for more than 20 years. This symposium is of profound significance to each other in academic research.

In response to the "Belt and Road" Initiative, our center has launched a series of symposiums since 2021 and has successively established collaboration with Mongolia and Singapore not only in the fields of new technologies and disciplines but also in interdisciplinary scientific research and clinical research. Academic exchanges have been promoted in discipline development of psychiatry, diagnostic technology, and specialized subject development, and high-quality talents constantly cultivated and developed in a bid to gain competitive edges.
