On the morning of October 26 2023, Andreas Heinz, Professor of Psychiatry, Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin, , accompanied by Professor Gunter Schumann from Fudan University, paid an exchange visit to Shanghai Mental Health Center (SMHC). Prof. Andreas Heinz engaged in a cordial conversation with our audience while delivering a special presentation on international collaboration in mental health. Prof. Min Zhao, the President of SMHC, oversaw this exchange event and facilitated discussions between the directors of some critical functional departments, clinical departments, research teams from SMHC, and visiting experts.

Prof. Andreas Heinz, Director and Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry and Psychotherapy at the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Center for Mental Health, is also the Chairman of the German Society of Mental Medicine, Psychotherapy, and Mental Physiology. His research focuses on neurobiological and sociocultural factors of mental health. 2011 saw him elected as an academician of the German Academy of Sciences and Literature, and in 2015, the German National Academy of Sciences elected him as an academician. He has received prestigious honors like the "Hans-Heimann-Preis" Award, the "Leibniz Chair" Award, and the Wilhelm-Feuerlein Award for his exceptional contributions to psychiatry.

President Zhao Min greeted the experts with warmth at the beginning of their conversation. Prof. Andreas Heinz gave us an additional introduction to the fundamental circumstances of Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin and the German Center for Mental Health. He said that with a 300-year history, the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of the most extensive and sophisticated medical facilities in Europe. It will provide our institution a great deal of room for collaboration and enormous growth potential in mental health. Dr. Long Jiang, Chief Coordinator of the Office of External Collaborations, then gave the visiting experts a thorough orientation on the fundamentals of SMHC, its historical development, its work at the National Medical Center, scientific research and teaching, clinical transformation, and international exchange and cooperation.

Two parties had a contentious conversation about future cooperation based on their more profound understanding, and they came to favorable agreements regarding training in mental health, research project collaboration, international academic exchanges, and other areas. President Zhao Min expressed her hope that both parties should seize the chance of this visit, keep developing channels for collaboration and communication, incorporate top-notch mental health resources, assist those suffering from mental illnesses, and contribute more to the global mental health sector.
